HillsRUs

HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

A selection of routes can be found in the WW Ride with GPS Route Catalog > use tag "HRU".

HILLSRUS 6-5-24 - Huckleberry's last Hoorah before Spinal Surgery

This will be my last HRU for at least 4 months and maybe longer. I'm going in for spinal fusion surgery next Monday and it's going to be a long recovery. I hope as many of you as possible can come out and suffer Huckleberry(Unbound) Hardin!!

Valerie and a few other braved trying Alpine dirt last time and not only said they loved it but that it was easy. Jack even said, it will be his go to way to Skyline over Page Mill. If any of you are not up for the trek, which is super easy and car free, meet us at Page Mill and Skyline via Old La Honda and Skyline but trust me, it's worth it.

Route via Old La Honda: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/46958195

Assemble at Pioneer at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

It looks like the weather gods are finally going to let me lead a ride, and Shawnery's big adventure a few weeks ago reminded me that this is a great time to visit Big Basin, as the current cooler weather makes water much less of an issue than in the summer.

We'll start from Monta Vista Park in Cupertino (off Foothill and Voss), climb Redwood Gulch and 9, then across Skyline to Bear Creek (in the fun direction), with a return via 236 (Big Basin) and 9.

Assemble at Monta Vista Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

    63 miles, 7100' of climbing

Lunch - bring or buy in Boulder Creek, for lunch at Junction Park.  There is no water at the park or Big Basin, so we'll need to load up in town before our climb back up to Skyline.
