HillsRUs

HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

A selection of routes can be found in the WW Ride with GPS Route Catalog > use tag "HRU".

    Huckleberries HRU
    The Beach Boardwalk Ride

    Nov. 26th 2025

    C+D/4(6454)/64

Meet at 8:45 for a 9am at Lexington Reservoir

Come out and enjoy, what may be, one of the last 70 degree days out on our bikes, while we still can!!

We'll make our way from Lexington Reservoir, down to The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Then climb our way back to Lexington Reservoir by way of Empire Grade and Zyante. This is actually a very close version of the first ride I did to Santa Cruz, over 5 years ago now, how time flies when you're on a road bike!! Ever since that ride, I look forward to making it back as often as possible!!!

Lunch: Will be in Steamer Lane Supply, across the street from the lighthouse in Santa Cruz.

    64 miles, 6454’ of climbing.

This is still one of my favorite routes and the weather looks like it will be favorable.  It will be a little on the cold side so bring layers (especially for the descent on Tunitas). Those desiring a longer ride can ride to the start.

As usual, Faster Riders will start first followed by the Social Climbers

Starting Location: Parking Lot behind Pioneer Saloon in Woodside

Start Time: be there by 8:45 for a 9 am departure.

    Distance: 48 miles

    Elevation: 5500 feet

Lunch: Bring or Buy at San Benito House in Half Moon Bay

    Routehttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/38356399

Regroups: Top of Kings, Top of Lobitos, Top of Purisima

I'm posting the same Wednesday ride Mark posted last week that was cancelled due to rain.  Based on the forecast, I feel we are likely to sneak in at least some of the ride - maybe the whole thing, before the real rain starts.

Assemble at Shoup (park up above in the church parking lot next to Foothill) at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

43 miles, with 4500 feet of climbing.

Lunch will be somewhere along the way, so bring food and drink for this classic "is it really gonna rain" ride.

On the very off, off chance there is no rain on Wednesday, this route will stay somewhat local. With my luck with rainy rides, assume this ride is not happening unless I post that it's actually on. An alternate ride for Thursday with a different route and starting place will be posted later, hopefully by Tuesday.

    Starting Location: Shoup Park

Start Time: be there by 8:45 for a 9 am departure. Rain cancels.

    Distance: 43 miles

    Elevation: 4500 feet

Lunch: Bring your own snacks to nibble on at regroups

I missed out on Devil's Slide  several months ago, so we're going to repeat it for my benefit.

Assemble at the Pioneer Parking lot (the upper lot is mostly empty again) at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

60 miles, with 5000 feet of climbing.

Lunch at Mac Dutra Park (or at the San Benito House should you crave a good sandwich and/or soup).

Route (I hope the faster riders will return via Higgins/Purisima, but it's not technically in the route).

The weather looks pretty nice this week, so it's time to head back out to the coast where it's just a bit cooler. For those who don't want to bring their own lunch, the D/E route stops to eat in Pescadero after climbing Page Mill and Haskins Hill. Those who want the shorter C+ route can bring food and skip Pescadero, instead taking 84/Stage/Hwy 1 to eat at the Bike Hut, saving ten miles and 1,200 of climbing with a Coastal Classic variation.

Start time and location: meet at Shoup Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure. Longer distance riders start first and the social riders can start afterwards and still beat them to the Bike Hut, being long gone by the time they get there.
