HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

  • HRU Revived: Coastal Classic

    To celebrate the revival of HillsRUs we will do one of the HRU favorites: The Coastal Classic.  There is construction at the bridge at the bottom of OLH which hopefully will not delay us much.

    To provide better social distancing the riders will be split up into multiple groups of no more the 10 people each. Please bring masks to wear at the start location.

    CANCELLED DUE TO SANTA CLARA COUNTY SHELTER-IN-PLACE DIRECTIVE, DATED MARCH 16, 2020

    We’ll climb to the summit of Mt Umunhum via Kennedy and Hicks.  Return by continuing on Hicks into the Almaden Valley and Shannon Rd.  Bring a lunch, no food available on Mt Um.

    Distance: 73 miles

    Climbing 6300'

    We’re off to Pescadero, via Page Mill and BURRRR West Alpine, Haskins Hill. Back on Stage, 84, West Old La Honda, Skyline and 84.

    It’ll be cloudy and cool, no rain in the forecast.

    For something different - a jersey "theme" - wear the jersey from your favorite California-based ride or tour!

    Let's go see what's new, or old, at the Flintstone House.  Canada,Bunker Hill, Flintstone House, Ascension, Ralston Bike Trail, Canada; 55 miles and 4,200' of climbing.  Bring or buy lunch at Safeway in San Mateo.

    I've edited the Ride with GPS file, now SP55 HRU FlintHouse, to correct some dead ends and odd routing.

    Meet at Shoup Park at 9:45 for a 10:00 AM rollout.

  • Page Mill, S. Skyline, Lexington

    Weather forecast is for a chilly day, let's warm up by climbing Page Mill. Then, south on Skyline to Bear Creek Road, Summit Road, Mountain Charlie Road, around Lexington Reservoir.

    Note: This ride will go down Los Gatos Creek Trail (i.e. dirt) from Lexington to downtown Los Gatos.

    Distance: 58 miles
    Elevation: 5485 ft.
    Lunch: (Bring your lunch) Redwood Estates Upper Park, Summit Road at Bayview Dr. ~ mile 29.
