HillsRUs

HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

A selection of routes can be found in the WW Ride with GPS Route Catalog > use tag "HRU".

We've missed this side of the hill since Big Basin closed last year. Page Mill to Skyline, south to Bear Creek and a lovely descent for lunch in Boulder Creek. Back to Saratoga Gap via Highway 9 - and then you have choices, you have choices!  Descend Redwood Gulch OR Highway 9 - there's road work scheduled for Highway 9, so you may have a delay on that route.

Smokey skies or rain (we wish!) cancels

Let's go to the coast again, since it's predicted to be toasty on our side of the hill. Since your ride leader has been off the bike for awhile, we'll do a little shorter route this week, starting in Woodside, climbing Kings Mountain and down Tunitas out to the coast, where we'll head up H1 to Half Moon Bay for lunch.  We'll return via Higgins Purisima, Lobitas Creek, and finally, Tunitas Creek.  If you want extra miles, I suggest starting at Shoup an hour earlier and riding up Foothill to the Pioneer for the official start, then riding back to Shoup at the end via Portola.

Starting time and location:  Meet at the Pioneer Inn at 8:45 for a 9:00 start

    Distance: 50 miles

    Elevation gain: 5,500'

    Ride Leader:  Steve Rempel

Bring or buy lunch at Cunha's Country Store in Half Moon Bay, or the bakery nearby.  We'll eat at Mac Dutra Park across the street from the store.

From Suzie Trexler at the Bike Hut:

The ride window opened Friday, July 9 and goes through Tuesday, July 27. Feel free to ride as many times as you like. The ride reception will be on Saturday, July 31 at Potrero Nuevo Farm behind the Bike Hut.

If you haven't registered already, head over to our event page. There, you will find all the ride details, including the route and how to report your time with Strava or manually. There is also an interactive message board where you can post any questions or photos and ride reports. Additionally, you'll find lots of information about the incredible cause you are supporting with Abundant Grace and their efforts to put the homeless to work on an organic farm.

If you have any friends, family or colleagues who might want to participate in this fundraiser ride, please let them know that July 12 is the last date to guarantee your t-shirt with registration

A big THANK YOU to our sponsors, including Pen Velo, Alto Velo, Western Wheelers, and Swell Yoga! We'd also like to thank RouteArrows for marking our route!

See you at the Bike Hut,
