HillsRUs

HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

A selection of routes can be found in the WW Ride with GPS Route Catalog > use tag "HRU".

It's time for a Fall visit to Big Basin State Park. Weather looks good but there is still no water in the park.  Be sure you get water at the Jamison Creek Fire Station (mile 32) if you need it. The water you carry will have to last  until you are back at Monta Vista Park

63 miles with 7000 feet of climbing

Start Location and Time: meet at Monta Vista Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure . Faster riders will depart first followed by the Social Climbers.

    HILLSRUS C+DE/3.8(5070)/61.4 FOR Nov 27

We'll be enjoying the slide ride clockwise for a bit of a new feel on an old favorite. People may be concerned with climbing 1 to devil's slide from this direction but its exactly the same as the opposite direction, sucky. Traffic should be super light the time of day we'll be climbing it though. As for climbing Sharp Park, there is an incredible amount of bike lane headed up to Skyline College so no concerns there at all, I've done it multiple times.

    Meet at pioneer @ 845 for a 9am start.

    61.4 miles, 5070’ of climbing

Lunch: Will be at the Devil's slide rest stop, with hopefully beautiful views to help wash lunch down our gullets. Either bring lunch or pick something up at the Half Moon Bay regroup.

Due to the rain forecast on Wednesday HillsRUs will be moved to Thursday for this week. In keeping with this we will revive the HRU Winter Classic FIVE BUMPS TO MONTEBELLO. This too may be cancelled if the forecast for Thursday changes or the roads are excessively wet so stay tuned for any updates. The Five bumps are: Mora, Parker Ranch, Sarahills, TollGate and Mt. Eden

Start Location and Time: meet at Shoup Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure. Faster riders will leave first followed by the Social Climbers

It's likely that HRU will be cancelled this week due to rain or wet roads, but just in case we get lucky (as happened a few months ago), I'm posting a local hills ride I found in route listings, with a subtext that this was Mike Khaw's swan song.  On an iffy day like this, I like to do rides that circle the drain, so we can make an early exit if need be.

If the roads are wet and/or the radar looks bad, I'll send out an email in the morning, but if the roads are dry and the radar looks OK, I'll show up at Shoup and give it a go.

Assemble at Shoup Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

43 miles, with 4100' of climbing.

Lunch - We'll do an impromptu lunch somewhere along the route - TBD, so bring what you need.

I am planning for this week's ride to ascend Kings then Swett, follow Skyline, descend 84 West/La Honda Road, up West Old La Honda, and back along Skyline to Page Mill.

Some weather reports call for brisk winds and up to 90+ minutes lost to wind, according to Randoplan. If the forecast continues to look windy, we can fall back on Five Bumps to Montebello which shows only 50 minutes lost to wind.

49 miles and 4900 feet of elevation gain if climbing Kings, or 40 miles and 4400 feet if climbing Montebello.

Start location and time: Shoup Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, route will be finalized then.

    Route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48970298
Alternate route if too windy: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30146275

    Alternate weather: https://bit.ly/3YRB2Yp
    Rain cancels.

    Alternate: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/30146275/cue_sheet

Lunch: In Sky Londa- sample the cuisine from the market or bring your own, or wherever we can find out of the wind.
