HillsRUs

HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

A selection of routes can be found in the WW Ride with GPS Route Catalog > use tag "HRU".

With much of our tribe doing Hamilton on Monday, we'll take it slightly easier and do a ride I stumbled on in the HRU tagged WW route list.  While I don't mind descending 92 (you kind of have to run with the bulls), anyone who would rather not can drop down Kings and meet us at the Sawyer Camp bypass trail.

Assemble at the Shoup Park (park up above) at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

52 miles, with 4600' of climbing.

Lunch is at the shopping center coming up Polhemus to Hallmark.

This week's HillsRUs starts from Monta Vista Park in Cupertino and goes to Big Basin by way of Redwood Gulch, Castle Rock, and Bear Creek Road. We return along Highway 236 and backtrack down Highway 9 and Redwood Gulch. Riders are free to bypass Redwood Gulch on the way back, but it is the most direct way and many people prefer not to finish the ride with a climb up Mt Eden Road.

Though temperatures are going to fall a bit going into the week, it doesn't look like this ride will be as wet and cold as when I led last month. Famous last words.

62 miles of riding with 7000 feet of elevation gain.

Start Location and Time: Meet at Monta Vista Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 staggered departure.

Lunch: At Big Basin Park, Bring or buy in Boulder Creek 9 miles and 1000 feet of elevation gain earlier.

The weather gods are again smiling, with clear, but slightly chilly skies now predicted for Wednesday, so let's take advantage and do a unique, but somewhat unlikely HRU ride (a bit urban in spots) that always reminds me of Peter Grace - San Bruno Mountain.  With this kind of weather, I feel we have a good shot at seeing the Farallon islands out in the distance.

Assemble at the Woodside public parking lot, adjacent to the Pioneer Saloon, at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

63 miles, with 5150' of climbing.

Lunch is at the Taqueria at the base of the mountain.
