C-/0.6/36 Lovely Bay Winter

  • 9:15 AM
  • Burgess Park, Menlo Park

Join Fredo Cirne (walfredo.cirne@gmail.com, 408-931-4133) for the classic Lovely Bay gravel ride.  We meet at 9:15 for a 9:30 departure from Burgess Park (corner of Alma St and Burgess Dr).

This is a scenic gravel ride by the Bay, with few cars even when we are on paved roads. Starting from Burgess Park, we're going towards the Bay via Lindenwood, cross 101 on the Menlo Park bike bridge. Once in the Bay, we pay a visit to the magnificent Bedwell Park before heading Southeast through the Bay Trail to Byxbee and Crittenden. We'll then stop at Sports Page for lunch (and maybe a beer ;-). Return is inland via low traffic streets, avoid the headwind by the Bay. This ride is great fun, very scenic, with low traffic.  But keep in mind it contains a good amount of gravel.  It is not technical, but I'd recommend a gravel or city bike with 38mm tires or wider.   A mountain bike will do just fine, of course.  That said, if you are comfortable doing gravel with skinny tires, all the power to you!  Also, keep in mind that ebikes are not allowed in Mid Peninsula Open Space, which covers part of this ride, unless you have a medical need for the assist.
