UPDATE 4/24/23

ROUTE CHANGES: While our D/E routes through Big Basin State Park are now reopened, unfortunately Aldercroft Heights Road and Old Santa Cruz Highway have closed sections due to landslides. While Aldercroft Heights is physically passable, the road is officially closed and we’ve decided not to route our large LDT ride on it. So, for 2023 our B/C routes will be out-n-back routes to Skyline (beautiful routes with a similar distance/difficulty). The E route will be shortened a bit. The popular D route is unaffected by the closure. (Any riders who want to do the original B/C/E routes can do so at their own risk – Aldercroft Heights is passable but officially closed.)

Starting from easily accessible Saratoga High School, all groups will make their way to the top of Highway 9 at Skyline Boulevard. For this week the C riders get bragging rights, as they are the only group that will tackle Redwood Gulch on the way up! From there all groups travel to the far reaches of Skyline as it winds to the south. E riders take a longer route on Black Road and back up Bear Creek Road. D and E riders then drop down to Boulder Creek for lunch, followed by a wonderful trip into Big Basin State Park, one of our California treasures. D/E riders need to have adequate water capacity to make it from Boulder Creek back to Saratoga, as there are currently no water sources at Big Basin! B and C riders will have a sack lunch (PACK YOUR LUNCH) at Castle Rock State Park before descending back to Saratoga.

LUNCH –Note that B and C riders need to PACK THEIR LUNCH for this ride. We’ll eat at Castle Rock State Park (restrooms/water available).

NOTE: CURRENTLY NO WATER IS AVAILABLE AT BIG BASIN! Rain cancels. Online route sheets/maps/gps.

MEETING LOCATION: Saratoga High School (20300 Herriman Avenue, Saratoga, CA). Take Highway 85 to Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd. exit. Turn south (right turn coming from Palo Alto); left on Herriman; right into school.
