C/2(3007’)/58 Saratoga HS to Metcalf

This is a route I have not lead since 2006, but thought with the cooler weather this weekend we’d head further south. From Saratoga we’ll work are way over to the East Bay foothills and climb San Felipe and Metcalf. Metcalf has a 1.5 mile section with a steady 10% grade, but thankfully we’ll be taking that part as a downhill. Our climb from the other direction will be much easier. Lunch will be at the Bernal Plaza mall, where there are several places for food, including Nick the Greek, Regal Bagel, Starbucks, Five Star Pizza, and Hankki House. Lunch is at mile 37 so please plan accordingly. After lunch we’ll climb Shannon on the way back to the start. This ride is a few miles longer than the recent rides to Los Gatos and Pleasanton, but it has 1000 ft less climb. So while we should have no problem making it back in the 4:00pm / 4:15pm range, just to be safe, the ride will start at 10:00am.  Meet Mark Mack (mamack@comcast.net or 925-207-4993) at Saratoga High School at 9:45am so we can get started at 10.
