EASTERN SIERRA – ROCK CREEK/MOSQUITO FLAT

We’ll climb Rock Creek Road, the highest paved road in California, to Mosquito Flat (el. 10,220’).  SHORT route starts at Tom’s Place and climbs upper Rock Creek Road, while LONG route riders add Lower Rock Creek Road. LONG riders can park at the bottom (see directions) or can park at Tom’s Place (a more secure location) and descend/climb the lower section before starting their ascent of upper section. EZ START riders (need carpool) do the upper climb, then descend all the way down to the bottom of Lower Rock Creek to meet their carpool. Lunch is near the summit at Rock Creek Lake Resort (aka “Pie in the Sky”). This ride is co-listed with ACTC.

NOTE: Most participants will check out of their Mammoth Lakes accommodations before riding and check into Bishop accommodations after the ride.

LONG ROUTE FROM BOTTOM: Meet out in the desert at the intersection of Lower Rock Creek Rd & Boundary Rd. at 8:15 am for a prompt 8:30 departure. From Mammoth Lakes head south on US-395, turn right at Gorge Rd./Paradise/Swall Meadows for 0.2 miles, turn right at Lower Rock Creek Rd./Old Sherwin Grade Rd. for 1.6 miles to the intersection.  Park in the dirt lot just past the junction with Boundary Rd.  

LONG ROUTE FROM TOM'S: Meet at Tom’s Place Resort (8180 Crowley Lake Drive, Crowley Lake, CA.) at Rock Creek Road & Hwy 395 at 8:15 for a prompt 8:30 departure. 

SHORT/EZ START: Meet at Tom’s Place Resort (8180 Crowley Lake Drive, Crowley Lake, CA.) at Rock Creek Road & Hwy 395 at 8:45 for a prompt 9:00 departure.
