HillsRUs

HillsRUs rolls weekly on Wednesdays

Route often includes Hwy 9, Page Mill, Old La Honda, Kings Mountain, West Alpine or Tunitas Creek. Always be prepared for variable weather on Skyline. Foul weather in the hills keeps the ride in the valley.

Start location and route announced Monday prior, via wwbc-rides email list and this page (scroll down to the blog).

Meet at 8:45 AM and roll at 9:00 AM departure. DE riders will depart first, C+ will follow.

Ride Leaders rotate weekly - Don Johann, Shawnery Hardin, Jack Jones and Steve Rempel, with guest appearances by Michael Khaw, Gary Virshup, Cathy Switzer, and others.

A selection of routes can be found in the WW Ride with GPS Route Catalog > use tag "HRU".

It looks like the weather gods are finally going to let me lead a ride, and Shawnery's big adventure a few weeks ago reminded me that this is a great time to visit Big Basin, as the current cooler weather makes water much less of an issue than in the summer.

We'll start from Monta Vista Park in Cupertino (off Foothill and Voss), climb Redwood Gulch and 9, then across Skyline to Bear Creek (in the fun direction), with a return via 236 (Big Basin) and 9.

Assemble at Monta Vista Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure, with D/E riders launching a bit before the Social Climbers.

    63 miles, 7100' of climbing

Lunch - bring or buy in Boulder Creek, for lunch at Junction Park.  There is no water at the park or Big Basin, so we'll need to load up in town before our climb back up to Skyline.

Wednesday's weather forecast is still very uncertain so I have chosen a shorter route that will get us back before the present earliest forecast for rain. If it changes and rain is predicted to start before noon the ride will be canceled.

Starting Location and Time:  Shoup Park at 8:45 for a 9:00 departure

Distance and Climb: 42 miles and 4600 feet

Two Loops for the Price of One!!

Meet Shawnery Hardin at Shoup Park at 8:45AM for an 9:00AM departure. Rain cancels but sprinkles are a go!!

We'll be making our way up Moody/Alpine then make our way to descend 9 via Skyline. We'll then make our way up Bear Creek and then descend the other side of 9 via Skyline again. At this point I added a few more gratuitous bumps on the way back to Shoup Park which everyone is more than welcome to cut out for an easier ride to finish.

Lunch will be at Junction park in Boulder Creek. You can pick up lunch, drinks and water in Boulder Creek before you make your way to lunch or bring from home.

It's Daylight Savings Time again and time to expand our route selection for HillsRUs. We will do one of our favorites: Zayante from Lexington.  Be prepared for a cold start but otherwise it should be great ride.

As usual there will be two groups with the fastest riders leaving first followed by the Social Climbers(C+D)

Starting Location: Parking Lot .3 mi past the dam at Lexington Reservoir. There is a $6 fee to park there (Credit/Debit Card). There is also a free dirt area across the street from the parking lot that can handle about 8 cars.

Directions: take the Bear Creek Rd exit off of Hwy 17, go across Hwy 17 and turn left like you were getting on 17. Take Alma Bridge Rd and go .6 mi to the parking lot just past the dam

Start Time: be there by 8:45 for a 9 am departure.

    Distance: 57 miles

    Elevation: 5500 feet

Lunch: Bring or Buy to eat at the Covered Bridge County Park in Felton (at the intersection of Mt Hermon Rd and Graham Hill Rd)

Once again the forecast is for rain (check out the forecast below), so keep an eye out for a cancellation.  But just in case the roads are dry to start, let's try once again to do one of Louis's Lunacy rides.  This ride stays very close to Shoup the whole way, so we can quickly bail for home, should it rain as predicted.

Meet at Shoup at 8:45 for a 9:00 AM departure.  We'll have two groups, with the D/E speedsters launching first, followed by the Social Climbers.

    No planned lunch stop.

C+D/E(6678’)/57 Redwood State Park via King's on Thursday!!!

Meet at Shoup Park at 8:45 for a 9am departure on Thursday!!!

    57 miles, 6678’ of climbing

Lunch - Bring food to enjoy at the duck pond or buy something at the La Honda store.

The forecast is a little hit or miss for Wednesday so I'll be moving HRU to Thursday. Wet roads are a go but real rain will cancel the ride, roads should be dry, hopefully.
