2026 Sequoia Volunteering

Registration

  • Laydown RouteArrows marking route segments and place warning signs

    There is approximately 150 miles of road to cover between 3 teams of 3 people
  • All RouteArrows and signs must be removed within two days of the event, 4 teams of 2 people.
  • Qualified person to assess and provide minor first aid to riders at the Foothill College finish line.
  • To receive emergency calls from riders needing SAG assistance.
  • Email captain Eben Haber (eben@habers.us) answering the following questions:

    How early are you willing to start?
    How late can you work?
    How long are you willing to drive?
    What kind of bike rack do you have, if any?
  • You must be a licensed HAM operator with your own portable radio to fill this position. Please add your callsign after your last name when signing up.
  • Greet and check-in pre-registered riders. Distribute wristbands and route sheets..
  • Setup and Cleanup catered lunch at Huddart park
  • Post flyers in bike shops and community message boards to help build awareness of the Sequoia. One volunteer needed for each of the 4 areas: SF, North Bay, East Bay, and Santa Cruz
  • Promote the Sequoia to corporate bike groups. Help them create teams. Support the corporate teams and individuals who want to ride in a team with recruitment, coordination, and other possible activities.
  • Volunteers will set up the rest stop, serve snacks to riders, provide information, and close the rest stop. RS Open 7:30am-10am

  • Person picks up truck on Friday 7/5, drives to club storage locker for gear/supplies pickup, drive to home, then to PV Church Saturday or Sunday, then be avail to return truck to Palo Alto Sunday late afternoon.

  • Collect, transport, and return riders' clothing drop-off bags:
    #1 Bike Hut 9:00AM-1:00PM (BH), then drive to Foothill 1:00PM-2:00PM;
    #2 Foothill 2:00PM-5:00PM
  • Foothill Starting Area Set up. Set up tables, chairs and bike racks. Lifting of less than 20lbs, and a little squatting & stooping involved.
  • Decorate starting arch then direct riders onto course. Help riders safely exit out of Foothill. This requires assertiveness to help riders get onto the right path.
  • Set up Finish Line & Lunch Area. Set up tables, chairs, awnings and bike racks. Move arch. Unload other amenities from truck. Lifting of less than 20lbs, and a little squatting & stooping involved.
  • Foothill AM Parking and Traffic management. Direct riders to parking lots 1 and 8. Assist in locating available spaces. Direct drop-off and overflow parkers to lot 2. Can accommodate those wanting to ride the shorter Sequoia routes (coordinate with Dale).
  • Set up bike valet area, fence and bike racks. Manage bike check-in and claim checks while riders enjoy finish area celebration. E-Bikes may require some heavy lifting.

  • Direct and cheer riders as they approach and cross finish line; direct riders to rest rooms, keep lunch area clean & empty trash.
