Northern Sierra Quest 2026
June 15-25, 2026
Join us for this new Western Wheelers adventure exploring the Northern Sierra between Truckee and Lassen National Park. We’ll “base camp” in Quincy and Chester, then end with two days of riding in Lassen National Park. The weather is usually good this time of year and fire season (along with its smoky skies) usually gets started later in the summer, but remember when you are in the mountains you need to be prepared for all kinds of weather – hot/cold and dry/wet! Thunderstorms are always a concern in the mountains, but this is before the prime thunderstorm season in July/August. This area has suffered through some intense fires in recent years, so some areas will be lovely green Sierra forests and others will be stark reminders of how precious this resource is.
Rides are appropriate for B+ through D riders, with several routes offered on most days. E-bikes are welcome on this tour and ideal for the longer climbs, but make sure you have a good understanding of your bike’s capabilities. Most of the rides are in alpine areas with elevations ranging from 4000 to 7000 feet. Lassen Peak Highway on the final two days climbs to 8,500 feet!
This is primarily a hotel/base camp trip, though there are both public and private campgrounds in the area. There are no group fees for this trip. Your expenses will be only for your transportation, accommodations and meals. On most nights riders get together for meals in local restaurants. Rides are unsupported - no SAG. Some days have lunch purchase options and water availability, while on others you must carry all your food and water.
Over the course of the trip there are eight listed rides, with a scheduled day off in Chester. On the final day we’ll gather for an optional short hike in Lassen National Park before heading home. Participants are always welcome to take a day off or do a different ride than the one scheduled for that day. Some will come for the whole adventure, but many participants join for just part of the trip, coming for 3-4 days. Note that we expect this tour to be an every two years event, so it will run again in 2028.
All rides are listed on the WWBC online ride schedule. For most of the rides there are several routes, which may have different starting locations. Some rides start at the hotel, while others require a drive of about 25-35 minutes.
