B-/1/35 BIKE YOUR PARK: Experience the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge

  • Sat, September 25, 2021
  • 9:30 AM
  • Shoreline Park, Dog Park Parking Lot, Mountain View

Join Howard Shafer (408-712-4573 or  jhshafer@sbcglobal.net ) and Jacquette Ward at the Shoreline Park Dog Park parking lot (Turn RIGHT off Shoreline Boulevard immediately BEFORE the Shoreline Park entrance kiosk and turn LEFT into the parking lot) at 9:30 am for a prompt 9:45 am departure. We’ll ride from Shoreline Park in Mountain View to the Don Edwards Visitor Center in Fremont almost entirely on bike paths, over twenty miles, and then return through Menlo Park and Palo Alto. We’ll visit Cooley Landing and Coyote Hills Regional Park along the way. They’re both part of the National Wildlife Refuge. This ride includes the Dumbarton Bridge (both directions) and some South Bay salt pond levees. The levees are mostly smooth dirt with just a few rocky spots, while most of the ride is pavement. We’ll ride at an easy A+/B- pace. If you’ve never been on a B ride before, but you can ride 35 miles with a few moderate hills, we won’t leave you behind. You don’t have to be a club member, but you do have to be COVID-19 vaccinated and carry a mask. Bring snacks as well as water because there are no eateries along this ride. This ride will be rescheduled in case of heavy forest fire smoke, it rains kittens and puppies, there is a plague of frogs, or the temperature exceeds the historically average temperature of the wildlife refuge by more than twenty Celsius degrees.

Bike Your Park rides are sponsored by the Adventure Cycling Association and the National Park System. We encourage you to register with the sponsor. You will become eligible for a Co-Motion Americano Bike sweepstakes give-away.
