Western Wheelers Cycling Skills Class

Sunday, March 24

The event is open to all levels of cyclists.

The class will be taught by Leo Jed, a long time League Cycling Instructor (LCI) with the League of American Bicyclists. The day will provide knowledge and skills for becoming a safer, competent and confident bicycle driver on the road in mixed traffic.

Leo will be assisted by our Western Wheeler LCIs, David Fitch, Gary Virshup, and Cathy Switzer.

What to bring:  Your Bike and Helmet, Water, Lunch and Snacks
What’s included:  Classroom and On-The-Bike Sessions, Snacks and Beverages.


Class Schedule (subject to change):

  • Sign-In & Orientation 9:45am-10:00am
  • Handling Drills & Avoidance Maneuvers on Parking Lot 10:00am-12:30pm
  • Lunch 12:30pm-1:00pm
  • Classroom Session 1:00-3:30pm
  • Road Course 3:30pm-6:00pm


The class will fill on a first come, first served basis.

Sports Basement of Sunnyvale is hosting the event.
Members who attend are eligible for a Sports Basement 20% discount (28% to Basementeer members). The discount is valid in-store and online from Sunday, March 24th to Sunday, March 31st.


Leo Jed (Bio)

Leo has been teaching cycling and cycling safety for almost 20 years, instructing hundreds of adults and children. He is a League of American Bicyclist (LAB) Cycling Instructor and completed the American Bicycling Education Foundation's Cycling Savvy curriculum. and has participated and organized  LAB LCI seminars.

Leo is an active cycling advocate. He is co-chair of Santa Cruz County’s Community Traffic and Safety Coalition, Member of SC County Regional Transportation Commission's bicycling committee,  Board Member of California Association of Bicycling Organizations (CABO), senior staff of ACTC' Bicycle Driving Academy, Street Smarts instructor for UCSC and Bicycling Traffic School.

In addition to local utility and recreational cycling he has bicycle toured in Europe, Asia, Russia, eastern Europe, Caucasus and Australia.
