UPDATE 8/19/18 - Our group campsite is FULL. If you want to be put on the waiting list complete the REGISTRATION page. If an opening occurs I will contact you. At the current time there are no other campsites available to reserve at the park, however there are 7 "walk up" campsites at the park. From previous experience, you would need to arrive by noon on Friday for a good opportunity to snag one of those.

Please register on the web site (go to Saturday ride listing on online schedule) for our "2-3 day weekend" rides, so we can plan better.

LDT RIDE: NAPA VALLEY WEEKEND

  • B/2.5(3000’)/48;
  • C/2.5(4000’)/62;
  • D/3 (5400’)/73;
  • E/3 (5900’)/83

Join us for this fall LDT Weekend trip (See additional ride listings for FRIDAY and SUNDAY).We’ll explore beautiful Napa Valley, Pope Valley, and Lake Berryessa, starting at our group campsite at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park. B riders take a modest route around Lake Hennessy, then follow interior valleys up the Pope Valley. C riders add a trek eastward along the shores of Lake Berryessa Lake, then loop back to the Pope Valley Market. D’s and E’s start their ride with the tough climb up Howell Mountain Road before following the C riders to Lake Berryessa. E’s add an outward spur to Eticuera Creek. All groups stop at the Pope Valley Market for snacks/lunch. The market has snacks, drinks, and ice cream, but riders should plan on packing a sandwich for their lunch. All routes return via the moderate four mile climb up Ink Grade Road, followed by a wonderful descent through the Deer Park neighborhood and on to Bothe-Napa State Park. This ride is doable as a day trip, but riders are encouraged to join us at our group campsite, which can accommodate up to 35-40 campers. Rain cancels. Online route sheets/maps/gps. See additional ride listings for Friday and Sunday.

MEETING TIME: 9:15 am for 9:30 departure

MEETING LOCATION: Saturday/Sunday rides will start at our Bothe-Napa Valley State Park group campsite. Riders who are not camping can park in the day use parking area (there is an $8.00 daily parking fee per car). The group campsite is adjacent to the day use parking area on the opposite side of the restroom/shower building. Directions: From I-80 North, take CA-37 West, then CA-29 North to Napa, then continue North. The State Park entrance is about five miles past Saint Helena on the left side of Highway 128/29. Driving time from Palo Alto is about 2:15 hours without traffic.

ACCOMMODATIONS: We have reserved a group campsite for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at Bothe-Napa Valley State Park which can accommodate up to 35-40 people (see details below). Rides on both Saturday AND Sunday will start and finish at the campsite. (Campers are welcome to stay Sunday night, but there are no rides scheduled for Monday.) We will have a pot-luck BBQ at the campsite on Saturday evening – all are welcome (see note above about daily parking fee for non-campers) - details will be sent to registered riders. Hotels are numerous in the Napa Valley, but they are all quite expensive and most require a two night stay. Lodging is available in Calistoga (4 miles), but is a little cheaper in Napa (21 miles).

FOOD: Campers bring their own food for breakfasts and for Friday/Sunday evenings. Dinner Saturday will be a pot luck BBQ - meat/drinks provided but campers will bring an appetizer/side dish/dessert to share. Detailed logistics info will be sent to participants.

CAMPING: Our group campsite requires advance registration/payment – full payment is required by Monday 10/1/18 (but will probably fill up before that date). Refunds available through 10/1/18.  No refunds (or transfers) after Tuesday 10/2/18 for any reason.
